Man shot at S. Toledo bar
In the past 18 months, Lavelle Mack reports that he has been shot at twice while at a South Toledo bar.
On Sunday, he said he was hit once in the right foot after a man he said is a member of the south side Orchard-Thayer gang opened fire on a bouncer at Bogarts Sports Bar.
The victim, 28, of Toledo, was reported to have been shot at 1:47 a.m. at the bar, 1402 South Ave., and was treated at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio, according to police.
Mack reported to police that he was shot at outside the bar in December, 2010, according to Blade archives. He was not injured in that shooting.
The bar has been a trouble spot before.
In June, Phillip Harper, 23, of 226 Shepler St. was found guilty on numerous weapons charges after he went on a shooting rampage in South Toledo in January that started at the bar.
Harper started shooting at Brian King, 28, and then chased King while firing what police said was an AK-47, hitting several houses.
Harper is to be sentenced July 18 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
Three people reported being shot in the bar's parking lot in 2006; in 2002, a man was brutally beaten with a pipe during a robbery outside the bar; and in 2000, a bar employee was shot twice by a man attempting to use a fake $20, Blade archives show.
Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said the department has "worked on that bar before," and that "it's on our radar" but was unsure if anything was being done as far as declaring the property a nuisance.
City spokesman Jen Sorgenfrei did not return a call for comment.
