West Unity driver dies in crash of car, pickup

BLADE STAFF

WAUSEON -- A 41-year-old woman from West Unity, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Fulton County on Saturday afternoon.

April Westfall was driving a pickup west on U.S. 20A about 5 p.m. when the vehicle was struck by a car driven by Zachery Seif, 19, of Wauseon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Mr. Seif was driving north on County Road 19 and failed to yield to the Westfall truck at the stop sign, according to the patrol.

The truck went off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting Ms. Westfall, who was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. The truck was heavily damaged.

Mr. Seif was wearing a seat belt and told emergency responders he was not injured, according to the patrol. The car he was driving was moderately damaged.

The intersection on the Clinton-German township line was closed about two hours.

Charges against Mr. Seif were pending Saturday night, the patrol said.
