One northeast Ohio woman was killed and another was critically injured when a sport utility vehicle went out of control Saturday night in East Toledo and struck them on the sidewalk, police said.

The vehicle, driven by an East Toledo man, was eastbound on Miami Street near the northbound I-75 exit ramp about 8:20 p.m. when it veered off the right side of the road, striking the women who were walking west on the sidewalk on the south side of the street, near the Days Inn. The minivan, which also struck a fire hydrant, continued for at least 150 feet before stopping.

Stefanie Arnold, 27,of Painesville was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chelsea Skoch, 23, of Madison was in critical but stable condition in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center this morning.

Both women suffered multiple traumatic injuries, according to police.

The driver, Michael Yates, 41, of Ironwood Avenue, was in fair condition in St. Vincent this morning.

Police closed the northbound I-75 exit ramp and Miami between the ramp and Oregon Road while they investigated the crash.
