BLADE STAFF

HASKINS, Ohio -- An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper suffered nonlife-threatening injuries Tuesday when he lost control of a patrol car and drove into a ditch in Middleton Township, the patrol reported.

Trooper Devon Black, 24, was flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, where he was listed in fair condition. First responders from the Middleton Township Fire Department used an extraction device to free him from the cruiser, which went into a ditch on Liberty Hi Road just south of State Rt. 582.

According to the patrol, the trooper was driving north from his home near Tontogany about 2:45 p.m. to the Bowling Green post on Route 582 near I-75.

The accident remained under investigation late Tuesday.
