Sandusky woman dies after Erie Co. crash

MILAN, Ohio — A Sandusky woman died Friday evening of injuries she suffered when her car left a rural Erie County roadside, crashed into railroad tracks at a crossing, and flipped into a cornfield, authorities said.

N. Ruth Robinson, 81, was declared dead at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland at 11:22 p.m., about five hours after the crash on Strecker Road

She was eastbound on Strecker Road in Oxford Township, troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Sandusky post reported, when her car went off the left side of the road and struck a small post and railroad ties. It then hit the tracks and went airborne, landing on its right side in the field.

Ms. Robinson was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center before being flown to Cleveland. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and troopers said intoxication did not appear to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation today.
