Toledo firefighters being promoted, from left, Captain Bryce D. Blair, Jr. (to battalion chief), Lieutenants Mike and Mark Benadum (both brothers to captains), and privates Robert Swartz, Matt Viertlbeck, and Jeremy J. Vedra (all to lieutenant), stand for the Pledge of Allegiance during the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department promotions ceremony at One Government Center in Toledo.
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department promoted six today.
The force, Chief Luis Santiago said, “will be a better, stronger department because of what we’re promoting today.”
Promoted were: Bryce Blair, Jr., from captain to battalion chief; Michael and Mark Benadum — brothers — from lieutenant to captain; Jeremy Vedra, Matthew Viertlbeck, and Robert Swartz from private to lieutenant.
Chief Santiago said the department is on pace to beat last year’s record-breaking run volume and that there are things to look forward to still this year, including the opening of a new fire station in East Toledo.
