Toledo man killed Sunday in Wood County crash

PEMBERVILLE — A Toledo man was killed Sunday afternoon when his car crashed head-on into an oncoming pickup truck in Wood County.

John Bognar, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision which occurred at 4:47 p.m. on U.S. 6 west of State Rt. 199 in Freedom Township.

Troopers from the Bowling Green post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Mr. Bognar was headed west on U.S. 6 when his car veered left of center and struck the pickup driven by Merle Trumbull, 71, of Bradner, Ohio.

Mr. Bognar’s car came to a rest in the middle of the road, while Mr. Trumbull’s pickup went off the right side and ended up in a ditch. Mr. Trumbull was taken to Wood County Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. The accident is still being investigated.
