A 9-year-old girl shot as she slept in her bed at her North Toledo home on Wednesday night has been identified as Brasia Lee. About an hour later, Danita Roddy, 47, was shot while reading a book on her enclosed central city porch.
Police said both victims were shot when someone fired multiple times into their homes.
Brasia was shot at 11:53 p.m. at her home in the unit block of East Streicher Street. Police report that the girl was lying in her bed, at the front of the house, when she was hit in the right leg by a bullet. She was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment.
Police said there were two adults inside the home at the time; they do not believe the girl was the intended target.
Police recovered a 40 caliber shell and a shell from a shotgun from the scene.
Ms. Roddy was grazed in the back by a bullet at 12:46 a.m. at her house in the 3300 block of Maplewood Avenue in the central city.
The victim told police she was reading a book when she heard "a couple" shots fired. One bullet went through the front door, the other went through a wall, police reported.
The victim was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment.
