A woman was found dead Saturday in a North Toledo home after an apparent kitchen fire.
Firefighters were sent to 287 Mont Royal Dr. about 1:30 p.m. when a visitor called 911 to say that no one answered the door, but a person was lying on the floor, Battalion Chief Karen Marquardt said.
The responding engine company noticed smoke-stained windows and requested the help of a battalion chief and arson investigator, said Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, fire department spokesman.
Firefighters got in through a side door, with the help of police, and found a kitchen fire had occurred but the fire was out, Chief Marquardt said. The woman’s body was found on the floor by the front door.
Authorities did not release the woman’s name Saturday night. The fire and death are under investigation, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said.
