A woman found dead in a South Toledo apartment after a standoff with police on Heather Hills Drive this evening apparently suffered a gunshot wound, Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said.
Police were called about 5 p.m. to 2558 Heather Hills by a man who said he was having a domestic violence situation with a woman, Sergeant Heffernan said. The man, who is thought to be a resident of the apartment, told police that he was in the apartment bathroom and had heard a gunshot.
When police arrived, no one answered the door. Police negotiators had some phone contact with the man who had called 911, but the door was never opened for authorities. Other residents of the apartment building were evacuated and about 7:30 p.m. police entered the apartment, using a key from the building management.
The male resident was taken in for questioning by detectives. No charges have been filed.
