Toledo police issue warrant for man, 18, in gang-related shooting

Toledo police issued an arrest warrant today for an 18-year-old man who allegedly shot another man in an apparently gang-related incident.

James Allen, of 1732 Westland Gardens Rd., is charged with one count of felonious assault for allegedly shooting Devante Coleman, 19.

The victim was shot twice -- once in the chest and once in his left leg; he was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment. A hospital spokesman had no information about a patient by that name.

Police reported that the victim and the suspect were both at a home in the 4200 block of Asbury Drive in West Toledo, when the victim was shot. The shooting was reported to police at 7:08 p.m. Monday night.

Police wrote in a report that the motive for the shooting was unclear, but they believe it to be gang related because the suspect is said to be a member of XBlocc, a Crips affiliate.

The suspect, who has not been arrested, is described as black, 5 feet, 4 inches, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and black pants.

Police today -- at about 8:25 a.m. -- responded to a home in the 1000 block of Avondale Avenue for a report of shots fired.

Two men there said they were shot at by two known suspects; no injuries were reported, although officers said several rounds from a large-caliber firearm went through the walls of the home.

No arrests have been made, but police say they are working on leads.
