MONROE — An investigation continued Wednesday into an incident Tuesday evening in which a pickup truck struck two women who stood in a Monroe Township road, killing one and critically injuring the other.
Elizabeth Winter, 18, of Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Nicole Holt, 29, also of Monroe, was listed in critical condition condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
The women were struck about 7:46 p.m. Tuesday on South Custer Road east of Raisinville Road by a pickup driven by John Chiotti, 57, also of Monroe, who was westbound in the left lane. It was unknown why the pedestrians were in the roadway, sheriff's deputies said.
Mr. Chiotti was not injured.
