The owner of a South Toledo gym was shot and killed today at his business in the 700 block of Warehouse Road, Toledo police said.

Joe Lengel, whose age was not available, was taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lt. Mark King.

Police responded to a report of a person down at 5:56 a.m. at Crossfit Toledo - Intensity Fitness, 757 Warehouse Rd., where they were met by patrons who said they had found Mr. Lengel suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Lieutenant King said.

The victim was shot possibly during a robbery, Sgt. Phil Toney said. Police are searching for suspects in the case.
