Hearing set for suspect in policeman’s assault

A Toledo man accused of punching a police sergeant in the face is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Toledo Municipal Court on Monday.

David Riley, 30, of 2243 W. Laskey Rd., is charged with felonious assault, resisting arrest, and loitering. He was arraigned Saturday and ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Sgt. Diane Chandler was working security at the TARTA Park Station, Erie Street and Madison Avenue, on Friday morning when she told him to leave.

The man refused, and when the sergeant tried to arrest him, he resisted and allegedly punched her in the face, according to court documents. A witness helped the sergeant detain the suspect until other officers arrived.
