BLADE STAFF

Two people were taken to area hospitals today after a two-vehicle crash on Oregon Road.

Christopher Campbell, 19, of Holland, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with serious, but nonlife threatening injuries after the crash, which was reported at about 7:10 a.m., according to the Toledo post of the State Highway Patrol.

A hospital spokesman had no condition available for the teen.

Also hospitalized with "minor" neck, back, and head injuries was Daryl Lewis, 28, of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital; a hospital spokesman said he had no information about a patient by that name.

Troopers said that Mr. Campbell was driving westbound on Ayers Road, turning left onto Oregon Road, when he allegedly failed to yield to a northbound dump truck, driven by Mr. Lewis.

The vehicles collided, sending both vehicles off the road.

Mr. Campbell had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Perrysburg Township Fire Department; he was taken to the hospital via Life Flight.

Mr. Campbell was charged with failure to yield and operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said Highway Patrol Lt. Dean Laubacher.

A separate single-vehicle crash sent one person to a local hospital with "minor injuries," according to a Toledo fire dispatcher.

The crash was reported at 8:23 a.m. at the I-475 eastbound at the I-75 southbound split in Toledo.

The crash caused a brief traffic backup.
