Wrong-way crash kills Toledo woman in Tenn.

NEWPORT, Tenn. — A Toledo woman was killed and her passengers were injured early Saturday by a wrong-way driver whose vehicle struck hers head on.

The crash was reported at 5:13 a.m. on eastbound I-40 in Newport, east of Knoxville.

Kristy Lynn Jones, 35, of Toledo was pronounced dead, according to information from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Her passengers, Ronald Boone, 36, of Oregon; Rachel Jones, 11, of Oregon; Amanda Constner, 13, of Toledo, and Aolani Boone, 1, of Oregon were injured.

The patrol did not report the severity of their injuries.

The Tennessee patrol said a vehicle driven by Dan Williams, 39, of Newport, Tenn., was westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-40 when it struck the eastbound vehicle driven by Ms. Jones. Alcohol and drugs were listed as contributing factors in the crash.

An online story by the Knoxville News Sentinel reported Ms. Jones and her passengers were on their way to Disney World.

Williams did not wear a seat belt. Everyone in Ms. Jones’ vehicle wore a seat belt except young Constner, who also was flown to an area hospital for treatment of injuries, authorities said.
