1 dead after wrong-way crash on I-75

Authorities have identified Juan Garcia, Jr., of Toledo as the person killed in a wrong-way, head-on crash that also injured a Michigan man early today on southbound I-75 near Ottawa River Road in North Toledo.

Mr. Garcia, 26, who was driving in the proper lanes, was pronounced dead at the scene, Toledo police said.

Adam Tunison, 41, of LaSalle, Mich., the wrong-way driver, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition.

Tunison was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-75 just south of mile marker 209 past Ottawa River about 3:05 a.m. when he drove into the path of a vehicle driven by Mr. Garcia.

Police did not say how long Tunison had been driving the wrong way.

No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation.
