A 74-year-old Berkey man was critically injured Tuesday when the lawn tractor with snowplow he was driving on Washburn Road in Lucas County’s Richfield Township was struck by a vehicle that was attempting to pass him.
James Michaels was taken to Toledo Hospital in critical condition, said troopers with the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
He was southbound on Washburn south of Sylvania Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. when he attempted a left turn and was struck by the car driven by Stephen M. Brown, 29, of Berkey, who was trying to pass Mr. Michaels. Mr. Brown was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, the highway patrol said. The crash is still under investigation.
