Information needed on string of daytime burglaries of Wood County homes

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information on a string of daytime break-ins in rural areas of the county during the past week.

Lt. Jamie Webb said the department has received reports of at least six burglaries at homes in the 13000 blocks of Jerry City and Freyman roads west of Cygnet, the 16000 block of Mermill Road near Rudolph, and the 14000 block of Kramer Road near Portage. Intruders have taken jewelry, tools, electronics, and clothing.

“They come up to the door, knock or ring the doorbell,” he said. “If someone answers, they’re going to ask for directions or something. If no one answers, they go ahead and use body force to enter.”

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call the sheriff’s office, 419-354-9001, or Wood County Crimestoppers, 419-352-0077. Lieutenant Webb said residents who are going to be away from home for up to 21 days can sign up at woodcountysheriff.com for checks of their homes.
