Man wanted by police for more than a year is arraigned

A man who eluded police for more than a year was arraigned Friday in Toledo Municipal Court for allegedly breaking into a home and shooting a resident in the face in 2011.

Xzavier Matthews, 21, of 711 E. Pearl St. is charged with felonious assault and aggravated burglary. He was also arraigned on an unrelated burglary charge from the same time frame. His total bond was set at $150,000.

Charges against Matthews were filed July 18 for the Aug. 28, 2011, burglary and shooting at a home in the 1500 block of Colorado Street.

Matthews is accused of having fired twice at Frank Gacsal, wounding him once in the face, and then stealing the Gacsal family’s television and vehicle.

Police had been actively searching for Matthews after the charges’ filing.

His preliminary hearing in court was set for Friday.
