A Toledo woman found dead in her West Sylvania Avenue apartment Sunday morning died from a sharp-force injury to the left side of her neck.

Joan Watson's death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy was performed today by Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Cynthia Beisser.

Dr. Beisser said Ms. Watson was sliced on her neck and had multiple superficial stab wounds to her torso. The 49-year-old victim's left breast had been cut off and she was missing tissue from her front left pelvis.

Ms. Watson, who was found in her apartment At 3118 W. Sylvania at 9:25 a.m. by a neighbor, had no defense wounds, Dr. Beisser said.

It's not clear how long Ms. Watson had been dead in her apartment. Dr. Beisser also said that all of the injuries were inflicted "around the time of death."

Ms.  Watson was officially pronounced dead at 9:32 a.m. by emergency responders.

James Millard Day, Sr., 66, is charged with murder for the death; he is being held in the Lucas County jail.
