Rural Pemberville theft found after ‘utility test’

PEMBERVILLE — Authorities reported items were stolen from a rural Pemberville home after a man came to the door and identified himself as a state employee who needed to check the utilities.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 5000 block of Alexander Road, when the victim told authorities a man wearing a hard hat and reflective vest came to her door. Authorities said when the two were in the basement an accomplice entered the home and took items. The victim did not see the second person and noticed items were missing several hours later.

The suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall Hispanic male with a Jamaican accent, left after the victim grew suspicious and asked for his identification.
