Officials examine 5 house fires across city

Toledo fire department officials continue to investigate the cause of five unrelated house fires that occurred in the last two days.

Nobody was injured in any of the blazes, said Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld, spokesman for the fire department.

Firefighters spent much of Friday night dousing house fires in the 900 block of Buckingham Street. The fires, reported about 7:15 p.m., began in a vacant house and spread to the house next door.

The first structure also burned on Thursday, Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said. Firefighters worked to keep the blaze from spreading further.

A fire investigator was called to the scene.

A house fire Friday at 1535 Macomber St. caused about $20,000 in damage and loss of contents, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said. The fire, which was reported at 3:33 a.m., was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The American Red Cross provided food, clothing, shelter, and comfort kits to three adults and two children at the scene.

A vacant North Toledo house at 615 Locust St. was heavily damaged in an intense fire Thursday evening. The blaze was reported just after 6 p.m. and the fire was declared under control about 7:05 p.m.

Another vacant house fire at 907 Buffalo St. was reported at 4:54 a.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.
