A man was shot and killed while breaking into a house in West Toledo early today, Toledo police said.
Police identified the man as Lucas Hassen, 24. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His address was not released.
About 1 a.m., police responding to a report of shots fired arrived at a house at 4546 Douglas Rd., searched the area, and found the man in a neighbor's yard, dead from an apparent gun wound, police said.

Mr. Loyer went on to tell police that the burglar nevertheless continued to try to get into the house so Mr. Loyer fired the gun, at which time the burglar fled, police said.
