Police investigate deaths of boy, 11, and his mother

Toledo police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred in Point Place in Toledo late Monday, Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said today.

Kim Hassler, 48, and Andrew Hassler, 11, her son, were found hanging in a garage at their residence in the 3100 block of 128th St. about 11 p.m. by the woman's boyfriend, who had just come home from work, Sergeant Heffernan said. They were pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The preliminary investigation indicates the incident is a murder-suicide, the sergeant said.

Andrew Hassler was currently enrolled in the 5th grade at Edgewater Elementary School, said Patty Mazur, a spokesman for Toledo Public Schools.

Grief counselors are being made available to students and teachers at the elementary school, she said.

The incident remains under investigation.
