Apologetic robber sticks up 'Stop & Shop'

In the midst of an armed robbery, the masked bandit apologized.

With cash and cigarettes in hand, the man, whose handgun was covered with a black T-shirt, told the Stop and Shop store clerk that police could find him on Sylvania Avenue, according to a police report.

The holdup was reported late Wednesday at a West Toledo convenience store, 1702 W. Laskey Rd.

The clerk told police a man with a black bandana on his face came into the store at 11:09 p.m. and said he was in a bad place and didn't want to hurt anyone, the report states.

The clerk, after the suspect demanded cash, put a register till drawer on the counter and gave the suspect a carton of cigarettes.

The clerk told the suspect only soft packs were available; the suspect was OK with that, the report states.

The suspect reportedly told the clerk he was trying to get locked up, “but they told him he wasn't sick enough,” according to the report.

Before fleeing the store, the suspect asked the clerk to wait two minutes before calling police.

No arrests have been made.

The suspect was described in a police report as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black bandanna over his face and sunglasses with silver frames.
