Mich. man dies after motorcycle crash

CARLETON, Mich. -- A Newport, Mich., man died Monday night after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a car on Telegraph Road, about ½ mile north of Newburg Road, in Berlin Township.

Gary L. Chamlee, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was operating a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Telegraph Road in the left travel lane just after 6:30 p.m., when he struck a grey 2007 Pontiac G6 that was traveling southbound Telegraph Road in the left travel lane and attempted to make a left turn east into a gas station lot.

The car was being operated by Douglas P. Bunea III, 16, of Carleton, Mich.

Mr. Bunea was transported by Monroe Community Ambulance to Oakwood South Shore Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Mr. Chamlee was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
