Cat, domesticated birds rescued from fire.
Fire caused an estimated $14,000 in damages to a two-story duplex in South Toledo on Saturday, displacing five residents, according to battalion fire chief Dennis Facer. When firefighters arrived about 4 p.m., flames were shooting out of windows on the building's first floor.
Chief Facer said the blaze spread up the outside of the structure, at 541 Crittenden Ave., and into the attic, causing some fire damage to the second-floor living unit. Firefighters rescued a cat and some domesticated birds in putting out the fire.
Chief Facer asked for an investigator to investigate the cause of the fire.
