Blown transformer knocks out power to Safety Building

Blown transformer knocks out power to Safety Building

A blown underground transformer on Jackson Street knocked out power to the downtown Safety Building on Thursday night.

As of 7:40 a.m. today, power was still out there and the building is running on generators, police said.

As a result, incoming calls to the Safety Building to not go through and computers continue to go in and out, and the building's elevators are down, officials said.

Calls outgoing from the Safety Building to other city lines are working.

Calls to 911 and the non-emergency phone number, 419-245-3340, are working.

Employees in the records section were moved to the Northwest Ohio Regional Information System (NORIS) offices at the unaffected Government Center so employees can check individuals for warrants.

Officials said calls for service will not be impacted by the outage.
