Defeated Hillsdale mayor files for recount of ballots

HILLSDALE, Mich. Hills dale Mayor Douglas Ingles, defeated in the Nov. 8 election by an 18-year-old high school write-in candidate, filed for a recount yesterday with the Hillsdale County Clerk of Courts, county officials said.

Mr. Ingles orginally lost the election to Michael Sessions by 64 votes. However, the county s board of canvassers Nov. 10 changed the margin to two votes.

Since his victory, Mr. Sessions, a senior at Hillsdale High School, has become a national celebrity, appearing on Late Night with David Letterman, the Today show, and on the front page of USA Today.

Neither Mr. Ingles nor Mr. Sessions could be reached for comment.

The county has until Dec. 2 to complete the recount.
