Keith Wilkowski, the top finisher in Tuesday's mayoral primary, was endorsed Thursday night - as expected - by the executive committee of the Lucas County Democratic Party.
The screening committee recommended the endorsement, and the executive committee concurred at party headquarters, Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler said.
Mr. Wilkowski in November faces Mike Bell, a Democrat running as an independent.
Mr. Bell has not sought a political party endorsement.
The executive committee, acting on the advice of the screening committee, also endorsed seven Democratic candidates for City Council.
They include, in their order of finish in the primary:
Joe McNamara; Phillip Copeland; Steven Steel; Polly Taylor-Gerken; Adam Martinez; Terry Shankland, and Terry Biel.
The primary winnowed the field to 12. Six will be elected in November.
