Governor John Kasich is going ahead with a meeting with local supporters of Issue 2 Thursday, but in a new location to accommodate a larger group.
Jon Stainbrook, chairman of the Lucas County Republican Party, said the ticket-only rally will take place at Tony Packo’s at Front and Consaul streets in East Toledo. The event is set to start at 6 p.m.
The original location was Packo’s at the Park in the Warehouse District. The local GOP has given out tickets to Kasich loyalists and expects about three times as many as the initial 50 planned guests.
Local labor unions and other opponents of Issue 2 are planning to picket the governor’s appearance in Toledo.
Issue 2 is a referendum on the Nov. 8 ballot to either uphold or strike down Senate Bill 5, the law adopted by the Republican-led General Assembly in March and signed by Governor Kasich to curtail public employee bargaining rights in Ohio.
