TEMPERANCE -- Bedford Township Supervisor Walt Wilburn has announced that he will run for a third term.

Mr. Wilburn, 64, said last week that he wants to continue with the projects he has focused on, including improving the township's roads. During his tenure, he noted, more than 25 miles of roads were paved and the township collected $14 million in grants for road improvements.

Mr. Wilburn, a Republican, is in his eighth year as supervisor, the township's highest elective office.

He had two township businesses, Walt's Heating and Air Conditioning and Walt's Real Estate. Both were in Temperance on Lewis Avenue.

He and his wife, Sue, have been township residents for 35 years. They have two daughters, Julie Faunt and Stacie Wilburn, and two grandchildren.

Mr. Wilburn served three terms as president of the Bedford Business Association.

He is on the board of the township's Downtown Development Authority.

He is part of Bedford Heart Heroes, the Lions Club, Bedford Goodfellows, Heart of Hope, VFW Post 9656, and American Legion Post 192.

He is also involved with the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, and the Bedford Community Foundation, of which he is president.

He helped successfully lobby to keep open the Michigan Secretary of State's township office and was a member of the South County Water System team that negotiated with Toledo for a new contract.
