Latest Ohio poll shows slight Obama edge

COLUMBUS — The final Ohio Poll released today still gives President Obama a slight edge over Mitt Romney in the battle for the all-important state of Ohio, but the bottom line is the race remains statistically tight going into Tuesday’s final voting.

The poll from the University of Cincinnati shows the Democratic president at an even 50 percent of the 901 likely voters questioned compared to 48 percent for the Republican former governor of Massachusetts. That’s still well within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

The poll also shows a tight U.S. Senate race, but gives the edge there to the incumbent Democrat, Sherrod Brown, over Republican state Treasurer Josh Mandel. It has Mr. Brown at 50.6 percent and Mr. Mandel at 46.8 percent.

Today’s poll shows the presidential race has tightened slightly since the last Ohio Poll last week when Mr. Obama was up by 2 percentage points, 48 percent to 46 percent.

The latest poll was taken between Oct. 31 and Nov. 4 and would have included the period immediately following Hurricane Sandy when both presidential candidates were briefly off the campaign trail.
