In contested council races in Findlay and Port Clinton, the primary election Tuesday determined names on the November ballot — and in some cases, winners.

From a field of five Republicans, three candidates were nominated for Findlay council-at-large — Anne Spence, an incumbent; Tom Shindledecker, and Grant C. Russel. Incumbent W. Jerry Murray came in fourth, according to unofficial results from the Hancock County Board of Elections.

Three council-at-large candidates are to be elected in November, virtually assuring nominees spots on council.

In Findlay Council’s 4th ward GOP primary, Thomas L. Klein defeated Thomas A. Ross. In the 5th ward Republican primary, challenger John Bauer defeated incumbent William J. Schedel, Jr. In the 6th ward Republican primary, Andy Douglas beat Jim Niemeyer.

Just one name will appear on the November ballot in those wards.

The races in Findlay’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th wards were uncontested.

Turnout was a slight 9.19 percent for the Democratic City Council primaries in Port Clinton.

In the 1st ward, incumbent Ronald D. Aukerman defeated Karen O’Keefe. He faces Republican Cassie Anderson in the general election. In the 4th ward, Gabe Below beat Gary S. Phillabaum. There is no GOP candidate; only Mr. Below’s name will appear on the November ballot.
