Toledo heavyweight boxer Devin Vargas was hospitalized with chest pains and was forced to pull out of last night s scheduled six-round bout against David Cleage at Gund Arena in Cleveland.
Ray Vargas, Devin s father and trainer, said his son complained of chest pains following Friday s training session. Ray said Devin was admitted into Toledo Hospital, where Devin is scheduled to undergo a battery of tests.
One of the tests came back abnormal, but they said that sometimes happens with athletes, Ray Vargas said.
Devin will remain in the hospital over the Labor Day holiday weekend and will undergo more tests on Tuesday.
Devin, 23, was a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic boxing team. He is 4-0 as a professional.
