Clay graduate Thomas recalled by Pirates
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates placed first baseman Jeff Clement on the 15-day disabled list because of left knee irritation, and they recalled left-handed reliever Justin Thomas from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Thomas is an Oregon native who spent his freshman and sophomore years at Cardinal Stritch and his junior and senior years at Clay, where he graduated in 2002.
He has been in the major leagues twice this year prior to his recall. In his most recent appearances in August, the 6-foot-3 left-hander surrendered no runs in 32/3 innings.
