CHICAGO — Marian Hossa broke a tie with a 5-on-3 power-play goal midway through the third period and the Chicago Blackhawks rallied to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Wednesday night in exhibition play.
Hossa, appearing in his first preseason game, beat goalie Ty Conklin from the top of the right circle after taking drop pass from Patrick Kane.
Kane, Brent Seabrook and rookie Ben Smith scored for Chicago (2-2-1). Duncan Keith had three assists.
Fabian Brunnstrom had two goals for Detroit (2-3-0) and Drew Miller also scored.
Kane appeared in his first game since undergoing left wrist surgery in July.
Both starting goalies played the entire game. Chicago’s Corey Crawford made 17 saves and Conklin finished with 20. The Blackhawks’ lineup was made up mostly of players who will start the regular season with Chicago. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock held out many of his top skaters and used a lineup filled with prospects and depth players.
