Mud Hens score late, win see-saw game vs. Clippers

COLUMBUS — Omar Infante capped a 2-for-5 night with an RBI single in the eighth inning, and Efren Navarro’s bases loaded walk scored Dominic Ficociello with the winning run as the Toledo Mud Hens secured a 7-6 victory Tuesday against the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park.

The Mud Hens got to within a game of the .500 mark as they won for the fourth consecutive game. Toledo has won eight of its past 10 games and is 21-9 this month, the best mark in the International League.

Three other players had two hits in the game for the Mud Hens. Bryan Holaday was 2-for-5 with a fourth-inning solo homer, which put Toledo up 3-1, and two RBIs. Jim Adduci was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring Infante with the first run of the game in the first inning; and Navarro went 2-for-4.

Bruce Rondon (2-1) walked two in 1⅓ innings of relief to pick up the win. Edward Mujica threw a perfect ninth, striking out one, to earn his 19th save.

Toledo was up by two going to the bottom of the fourth, but Adam Moore’s RBI single got Columbus to within 3-2.

The Clippers took the lead in their half of the sixth on a Josh Wilson RBI single and Moore’s RBI double.

The Mud Hens retook the lead at 5-4 in the top of the seventh on Jeimer Candelario’s RBI single and Tyler Collins’ sacrifice fly.

Columbus went back up 6-5 in its half of the inning on Richie Shaffer’s two-run home run. It was his 30th of the year.

The two teams play the third game of the series at 6:35 p.m. today.
