County real estate taxes for 2011 are due Tuesday

BLADE STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES

Lucas County Treasurer Wade Kapszukiewicz reminds taxpayers that the second-half 2011 real estate tax payments are due Tuesday.

All payments being sent through the mail must be postmarked by Tuesday to avoid interest and penalties.

Taxes can be paid at the Lucas County treasurer's office on the fifth floor of One Government Center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The treasurer's office now offers taxpayers a new way to pay their bill: an outdoor drop box. Placed in front of the Safety Building, near Erie and Jackson streets across from the Government Center, the drop box will accept real estate payments 24 hours a day (checks or money orders only). Real estate payments to the drop box must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to be considered paid on time.

Payments can be made in person at branches of Fifth Third Bank, KeyBank, Huntington Bank, Genoa Banking Center, and First Federal Bank.

Payments can be made with cash, money order, certified check, or personal check. Credit card payments and echecks are accepted by phone, the Internet, or in person at the treasurer's office. No credit card payments are accepted by mail.
