Home sales increase in July in Toledo area, across Ohio

The Ohio Association of Realtors said 660 homes were sold in the Toledo area last month, a 3.9 percent increase from July, 2011.

Statewide, the association reported July sales rose 13.4 percent from last year. It’s the 13th straight month statewide sales have increased year-over-year.

“For the Ohio marketplace to attain 13 consecutive monthly sales gains is a remarkable accomplishment, one that is even more notable when you consider the challenges wrought by the economic collapse of 2008,” association President Robert U. Miller said in a statement. “With each passing month, it’s becoming evident that we’re establishing a solid foundation for having a sustainable, growing marketplace going forward."

The association said the average sale price for homes sold in the Toledo area last month was $110,529, which was down 1.9 percent from July, 2011. Barbara Stout, Toledo Board of Realtors president, said officials believe that is a blip, and not an indication of a coming trend.

On the year, Toledo-area prices are up about 2 percent.

The report, which was issued Wednesday, includes new and existing single-family dwellings.
