A four-story Toledo apartment complex said to have been a place where the late President John F. Kennedy once spent the night, sold at a court-approved auction this week for $265,200.

The Saxon House Apartments, a 19-unit building at 1647 S. Cove Blvd., was sold to an unnamed bidder who plans to refurbish the building and rent the vacant apartments, said Brent Wilson of Wilson Auction & Realty Co. Seven of the 19 units at the building, which is in receivership, are rented.

Bidding began at $125,000 and the auction lasted just 15 minutes, Mr. Wilson said.

The sale awaits approval by Dennis Noneman, the court-appointed receiver, and the court. The buyer wanted to remain anonymous.

The building, which dates to 1963, garnered attention because an old rumor suggests that President Kennedy stayed briefly in one of its apartment units in the summer of 1963, the year in which JFK was assassinated. The unverified account was mentioned at the auction, Mr. Wilson said.

“There are people who still swear that it’s true. We told them, ‘It’s for you to judge. We are not verifying it,’ ” he said.
