Evangelical Lutherans to elect bishop

Representatives of the regional synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will elect a bishop at their annual meeting Thursday through May 22 on the campus of Bowling Green State University.

Bishop Marcus Lohrmann, who has served as bishop of the synod for six years, has indicated he is willing to continue to serve if he is called.

Representatives of the 188 congregations in the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the ELCA will elect members of the synod council and also vote on a resolution to close Toledo's Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The assembly will begin with a worship service at 4 p.m. Thursday in Kobacker Hall and will be open to the public.

Plenary sessions are scheduled for Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday.

Special guests will include Dr. Craig Nessan, a professor at Wartburg Seminary; the Rev. Lowell Almen, secretary of the ELCA, and musician Jay Beech.
