Former NFL star Oscar Roan to speak here next week

Oscar Roan, a former NFL tight end for the Cleveland Browns, will speak about his faith in special events to be held next weekend at First Alliance Church, 2201 Monroe St.

Raised in a rough inner-city neighborhood in South Dallas, Texas, Mr. Roan was a four-sport star in high school and played football and basketball at Southern Methodist University before being drafted in the third round by the Browns in 1975. He played for Cleveland from 1975 to 1979.

A kick-off party will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the church, with food, games, and giveaways for all, followed by a talk by Mr. Roan about his spiritual journeys at 7 p.m. The former football star will speak at the church at 11 a.m. Sept. 16 and will hold an informal question-and-answer session at First Alliance at 6 p.m.
