Tibetan Buddhist monks plan events in Toledo area

Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery in India will be in Toledo Wednesday through Sept. 15 to promote awareness of their monastery that was founded in 1416 and destroyed by the Chinese in the 1950s.

The monks will offer personal and group spiritual healings and empowerments, and perform house and business blessings.

They also will give a lecture on World Peace and the Unity of All Religions at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4909 West Sylvania Ave. A donation of $10 is requested.

The monks will create a sand mandala honoring the Medicine Buddha at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Mercy Cancer Center at St. Anne Mercy Hospital, 3404 West Sylvania Ave.

A dissolution ceremony, free and open to the public, will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at St. Anne Mercy Hospital, with cancer patients and survivors invited to receive a special blessing.
