2010 Summer Houses of Worship Tour scheduled

People interested in learning more about other religions or denominations will have an opportunity to visit eight houses of worship in northwest Ohio starting next week.

The Toledo Area Ministries' 17th annual Houses of Worship Tour begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Bible Temple in West Toledo, followed by a different facility opening its doors each Tuesday at 11 a.m. through Aug. 17.

The tours began in 1994 and have remained a popular summer event, with an average of 200 people per week attending last year, according to Donnajean Stockmaster of TAM, who helped coordinate the 2010 sites.

"It's a pretty diverse lineup this year," Ms. Stockmaster said, with sites ranging from traditional Christian churches such as St. Mark Lutheran in East Toledo, founded in 1884, and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in downtown Toledo, to modern facilities such as CedarCreek Church's Whitehouse campus and First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Toledo.

The lone non-Christian stop is the Hindu Temple of Toledo. Most tours will be led by the host pastor or religious leader.

More information is available by calling Toledo Area Ministries, 419-242-7401, or online at TAMOhio.org.
