The Purpose Driven Life was published a decade ago. The author, the Rev. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., where about 22,000 people worship weekly, has sold more than 32 million copies of his book. Perceiving that the book still has a purpose in its life, Zondervan is releasing a 10th anniversary edition.
Because no life is simple, especially not the viability of a book, the “expanded edition” of The Purpose Driven Life emphasizes the subtitle What On Earth Am I Here For? In press materials, Mr. Warren says, “There is an entire generation who was too young to read The Purpose Driven Life 10 years ago but are now asking the critical question of ‘What am I here for?’ ”
Although the text is what this book is here for, QR codes and Web links are provided in the new book. Readers can use smart phones or computers to see an introduction and hear an extended Bible-study message recorded by Mr. Warren for each chapter. Readers also can join an online community. Plus, Mr. Warren added two chapters, “The Envy Trap” and “The People-Pleaser Trap.” The “new” book is available in ebook and audio editions.
