Rev. Angela Zimmann to deliver final sermon before move to Middle East

RIGA, Mich. — The Rev. Angela Zimmann will preach her final sermon as minister of Trinity Lutheran Church, 7623 Riga Hwy., at the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday. Pastor Zimmann, who was the Democratic candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 5th district in 2012, an election that the incumbent, state Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) won, is preparing to move to the Middle East.

Pastor Zimmann and her husband, the Rev. Martin Zimmann, will serve as co-pastors at the Church of the Redeemer in the Old City of Jerusalem. The couple also will be special assistants to Bishop Munib A. Younan, the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The Zimmanns are awaiting their travel visas and hope to move this month.

The scripture for Pastor Zimmann’s sermon is the “For everything there is a season” text from Ecclesiastes. The season of her arrival at Trinity was the fall of 2004; more than eight years later, this is the time for her to leave for a new calling.

Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1690 Sterns Rd., Temperance, where Pastor Martin Zimmann served as assisting pastor, the Zimmanns will take part with Bishop Don Kreiss in a commissioning service for their mission.
