Attention BGSU male students:
Are you at least 6-foot-2, 270 pounds? If not, are you willing to hit the buffet tables until you re ready to vomit? We ask this because the BG football team may be in need of a defensive tackle or two come August.
Jacob Hardwick, a projected starter along the front, has been indicted on charges of robbery and aggravated burglary. This isn t good, but these things happen. You simply move down the depth chart and elevate someone to a starting role. Except in this case, Hardwick s replacement, Orlando Barrow, has already been arraigned on those same charges from the same incident. Hardwick and Barrow are off the team, probably forever. Obviously this isn t good, but we can always plug in Nick Torresso. Yes, this is the same Nick Torresso who was cited for disorderly conduct in late April after shattering a glass door. Apparently, Torresso is still a member of the team and is probably one of your starters at tackle along with Michael Ream. And yes, Ream missed much of last season because he was suspended, but we re not going to go there. Again, people make mistakes. But I m not willing to label robbery and aggravated burglary a mistake.
But I am willing to say that a promising season is starting to lose air even before camp begins. I m also willing to say that BGSU fans are no longer allowed to poke fun at UT s off the field problems. That privilege has been revoked.
Additional bad news could come, as it looks like Barrow and Hardwick were accompanied in the robbery by another football player who has not yet been charged.
