Toledo Area Humane Society spokesman Sherri Miller gets a loving smooch from friendly Cricket, an employee's dog, during the Forever Friends Learning Center's recent visit to the society, at 1920 Indianwood Circle in Maumee.
The Bow Wow Bash, a major fund-raiser for the Toledo Area Humane Society, will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight tomorrow in the Nairobi Pavilion at the Toledo Zoo.
The event, which is in its second year, was a success in 2007, attracting 400 participants and raising $6,000 for the Humane Society, spokesman Sherri Miller said.
"It's important to remember that the Humane Society receives no city, state, or federal funding, or monies from national humane organizations. We depend on donations, grants, and fund-raisers like the Bash," she explained.
Unlike other Humane Society functions, where pets are welcome, this one is for people only, and they must be at least 21.
Tickets are $40. They can be purchased at the Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee; by calling 419-482-7101, online at www.toledoareahumanesociety.org, or at National City Bank at the Franklin Park, Parkway Plaza, Perrysburg, and Holland Road (Maumee) branches.
The evening will include live 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s music from Johnny Rocker and the Hitmen, and grazing tables with various foods, including Mexican and Italian.
Door prizes will be awarded and there will be a raffle.
The nonprofit's other major annual fund-raisers are Bark in the Park in May and the Fur Ball in October.
